The Samoan Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) has hosted another Oceania Sports Educator Programme (OSEP) Training this past week, with 7 participants. The OSEP training was for Educators, where they are being assessed in order to be able to teach courses themselves.

The OSEP trainings are internationally recognised and are an initiative that began in partnership from the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC), the Australian Sport Commission and the Organisations of Sport Federations in Oceania. The programme offers sport administration and coaching training.

Having these trainings allows for National Federations to capacity build and improve their skill set in order to improve the outcome of athletes and team Samoa in competitions and international games. CEO of SASNOC Faamausili has said “[OSEP trainings are] essential to support National Federations as it is ultimately National Federations who will be training our athletes and help us in achieving our mission of sports development in Samoa”.

There are currently 6 Master Educators, 6 Educators, and 120 participants who have completed community based level training in 2015-2016. One participant of the past week has said of the training, “by any standard’s it was well planned, classic, taut, moving and fun in a masterly fashion”.

All OSEP trainings are free for 2016. To be able to participate in the trainings you must belong to a National Federation and be an active member. Registration forms can be collected from the SASNOC Office in Faleata Sports Complex Tuanaimato, along with a schedule of upcoming trainings for 2016.
