In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) and the Samoa Women in Sport Commission (SWSC) launched the Extraordinary Sports Women Challenge.
The launch took place at the events sponsor, Digicel Headquarters and was met with a press conference from SASNOC President Patrick Fepuleai, SWSC Chairperson Nynette Sass, and the CEO of Digicel, Rory Condon. All were excited to launch the Challenge with the hopes of it setting an example of how women involvement in sports can be achieved and maintained.
SASNOC President Patrick Fepuleai stated SASNOC and the International Olympic Committee ‘encourages women in sport at all levels, [in order to] bring about equality between men and women’. SASNOC and SWSC are aiming for a total of 100 girls and women to participate in the Challenge with registrations closing Saturday March 12 2016.
Whilst Apia is the only village that will be hosting the challenge for 2016 SWSC Chairperson Nynette stated ‘this is just a start’. SASNOC and SWSC are aiming to bring the Extraordinary Sports Women Challenge to wider Upolo and Savi’i in 2017 with a greater registration capacity.
